Okedi is an orphan and his mother’s only hope. Since his father died of AIDS he wants to know as much as possible about the disease and to work with others to reduce stigma. When Okedi passes into secondary school, his mother places him with her close friend, Alice, in the nearby town. Though she is old enough to be Okedi’s mother, Alice feels attracted towards Okedi.
