Birds of Uganda: A picture guide

By:Tourguide

Uganda is ranked among the richest countries in the world in terms of bird species with over 1,000 sighted and more new species being recorded. This is more than half the total species recorded in Africa. Of these, only 224 are represented in this book. In selecting birds to include, preference was given to those species that are easily seen and those that occur in areas visited by tourists. This guide is designed as a quick and easy-to-use reference in the field for both amateur and experienced bird-watchers. Both common and scientific names are included. Distribution maps appearing alongside each species entry show at a glance the areas in which the bird occurs.

East African Birds

By:Tourguide

On my arrival in Uganda in 2002, it would have been fair to say that my knowledge of birdlife was minimal. However it soon became obvious to me, that with over 1400 species living or visiting East Africa, they were one of the regions greatest attractions. I have since spent many hours watching and photographing them for pure personal pleasure, and during this time I have been amazed by their diverse shapes, colours, and activities. In this book I have collected a small selection of my favourite photographs of the birds you will easily come across, that I hope you will enjoy. Readers will enjoy a visual delight of over 150 species of East African birds.
About Author
Andy Gooch travelled to East Africa from England in 2002. Upon arrival, he immeadeately fell in love untamed beauty. He has been challenging himself to capture this beauty through a lense ever since.

Mountain Gorillas

By:Tourguide

I have been living in Africa for many years now and have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in the bush. I could recount many sights and experiences which are best left to the local bar. If anyone asks me what my favourite experiences are? Gorillas will always be near the top of my list. It is an amazing experience which is well worth the undoubted planning and exercise. You will be one of the few people to take the trip as the permits are limited and sadly so are the gorilla with less than a thousand in existence. Treasure the experience and feel privileged that you spent time with one of nature's rarest animals.

NRM 25 Years Politics, Policies and Personalities(First Edition)

By:Tourguide

NRM 25 Years Former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson once famously said that a week is a long time in politics. Going by that measure, twenty-five uninterrupted years for the NRM and President Yoweri Museveni, at the helm of national politics would indeed sound like a very long time. But that is if you do not consider the magnitude of the political, social, economic and physical work that has been compressed into these years, to put Uganda on its path to recovery. Over the last two and half decades, many things have changed in Uganda, mostly for better, although this view is contested by some. This book, in interviews and in-depth articles, highlights those changes in the different sectors and the views of the personalities that have shaped them. It certainly is not exhaustive as 25 years can hardly be fitted into 200 odd pages. Yet it is perhaps one of the best references for this generation to look back, and for future generations to judge the performance of the National Resistance Movement, and its leadership's performance over the last 25 years.

One Little Guitar: The words of Paul Job Kafeero

By:Kathryn Barrett-Gaines (Omwana w' Omuzungu)

One Little Guitar: THE WORDS OF PAUL JOB KAFEERO is a literacy and pictorial recreation of the musical career of Paul Job Kafeero, Uganda's beloved composer, Singer and social and cultural critic. It is the only complete collection of every word he recorded, in 83 songs on 21 albums, during his twenty years carrier. The songs are rendered in their original Luganda prose poetry, and in English translations. The book contains reproductions of each tape jacket of each album, and hundreds of full color and some grey, photographs of Kafeero on, off, and behind the stage. The images and their captions reveal the life of the life of the man that many knew as Prince and The Golden Boy of Africa. Paul Kafeero's music, even after his death in 2007, continues to reverberate in the minds and hearts of Ugandans at home and abroad. Ugandan radio stations continue to play his music to mark both trying and blissful moments. His songs are didactic, reflective and inspirational, commonly described as educative. People report feeling compelled to modify and improve their lives after listening to Kafeero's music. This has cemented this artist's educational legacy. This collection is the first of its kind in Ugandan history. It celebrates the life of this cultural icon and preserves a serious body of literature as part of the cultural legacy of all Ugandans
About Author
Kathryn Barrett-Gaines is popularly known in Uganda by her stage name, Omwana w’Omuzungu. She is director of African and African American Studies at University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the United States, where she is a tenured professor of African History and African American History. The Story of Uganda Martyrs and Namugongo

By:Tom Malaba

This is a story of faith, courage and cruelty. It takes the reader through the heroic deeds of the Christian martyrs who, only a few years into their new-found religion, chose to burn on the pyre rather than follow the King of Buganda’s pagan ways. It is from their ashes that Uganda’s and perhaps East Africa’s most important place of Christian pilgrimage was built.
